CSP Acoustics provided design guidance for the refurbishment of the Wolfson Building, Glasgow to obtain the BREEAM UK Refurbishment and Fit Out 2014, Hea 05 credit for indoor ambient noise levels and Pol 05 noise pollution. The design advice provided drew on the technical guide to the credits, which notes the use of BB93 2015 criteria set out in section 1 of the document for Hea 05 and the methods set out in BS 7445 for Pol 05.
Acoustic design guidance has been integrated into the overall project proposals, taking in to account the recommendations for appropriate room acoustics and environmental noise control in education buildings in BREEAM Hea05 and Pol05.
Acoustic guidance provided included assessments of intrusive noise, sound insulation between rooms, rain noise, plant noise to the exterior and room acoustics.
Acoustic commissioning tests to be completed at the Wolfson Building in a sample of teaching and study spaces will establish that BREEAM acoustic standards will be successfully achieved.

It is a fact that the impact of many acoustical issues can be reduced by making appropriate early stage design decisions – site layout, building planning, materials and structures choices can all affect the magnitude and therefore cost of dealing with noise, privacy and communication issues. To help designers become more aware of the impact of acoustics on design and development CSP Acoustics is happy to provide CPD Updates on Acoustics and Noise issues to design practices and client organisations. Lunchtime, or longer, CPD sessions can be arranged for delivery in-house to suit client and design organisations.
