Bertha Park Secondary School, Perth

CSP Acoustics provided guidance on sound insulation and room acoustics for the proposed Bertha Park Secondary School. Recommendations for the design of spaces within schools and other educational buildings are based on design guidance set out in Building Bulletin 93 Acoustic Design of Schools: Performance Standards.

Overview

For the purposes of BREEAM credit Hea 05; Bertha Park Secondary School has been designed to Building Bulletin 93 requirements. CSP Acoustics has also been appointed to undertake completion testing at Bertha Park Secondary School, with satisfaction of BREEAM credit Pol 05 to be established during the completion testing regime.

Reverberation time calculations for these spaces have been carried out using proprietary 3D room acoustic modelling software EASE® (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers) which takes account of assessment methods set out in BS ISO 3382-2:2008 Acoustics
Measurement of room acoustic parameters.

The use of this software allowed accurate determination of areas and placement of sound absorbent material finishes within large volume spaces, which typically require rigorous assessment, in order to comply with BB93 requirements.

Early Decisions Make a Difference

It is a fact that the impact of many acoustical issues can be reduced by making appropriate early stage design decisions – site layout, building planning, materials and structures choices can all affect the magnitude and therefore cost of dealing with noise, privacy and communication issues. To help designers become more aware of the impact of acoustics on design and development CSP Acoustics is happy to provide CPD Updates on Acoustics and Noise issues to design practices and client organisations. Lunchtime, or longer, CPD sessions can be arranged for delivery in-house to suit client and design organisations.
