CSP Acoustics LLP was engaged by Alumno Developments to provide acoustic design advice at their proposed student accommodation at Powis Place. CSP Acoustics initially completed a review of building façade element sound insulation requirements.
A further assessment included the review of the sound insulation performance of internal walls and floors within the proposed student accommodation. The relevant performance standards were the Scottish Building Regulations Part 5 requirements for Non-Domestic Buildings and BREEAM Credit Hea 05.
We were able to utilise the great experience of our team, from both a theoretical and laboratory-based point of view on this project to help predict and to select the ideal construction methods and materials that would meet our client’s targets. The input of CSP Acoustics in the design, helped to achieve an outstanding acoustic performance and to achieve BREEAM.
Powis Place student accommodation was nominated for the RIAS Award in 2017.

It is a fact that the impact of many acoustical issues can be reduced by making appropriate early stage design decisions – site layout, building planning, materials and structures choices can all affect the magnitude and therefore cost of dealing with noise, privacy and communication issues. To help designers become more aware of the impact of acoustics on design and development CSP Acoustics is happy to provide CPD Updates on Acoustics and Noise issues to design practices and client organisations. Lunchtime, or longer, CPD sessions can be arranged for delivery in-house to suit client and design organisations.
